Statement from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies

Welcome to Undergraduate Studies at the Technion!

Dear applicant,

In 1924, the Technion admitted its first cohort of 16 students, marking the start of its journey as the country’s first university. From its establishment and to the present day, the Technion has been a crucial driving force in the development of the country, contributing to scientific and technological advancements, electricity and telephone networks, the establishment of traditional industries, the growth of the Israeli hi-tech sector, and the development of housing solutions and infrastructure throughout the country. Today, the campus comprises 18 faculties across 85 buildings, featuring state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities that are among the most advanced in their respective fields worldwide. Notably, the campus includes interdisciplinary centers in nanotechnology and life sciences, established with significant investments, as well as a supercomputer that enables cutting-edge, advanced research.

At the Technion, over 10,000 students are pursuing undergraduate studies, and approximately one-third are female. In most faculties, the percentage of women exceeds the national average for that particular faculty. As part of their studies, the Technion imparts knowledge and trains students to learn independently by developing strategic learning strategies and critical thinking skills. Additionally, as a complement to traditional instruction, the Technion provides guidance and mentoring, often in the form of non-formal education or on-the job training. The Technion pursues these goals through a holistic vision, recognizing that the educational system must contend with global changes in higher education and adapt accordingly. The main changes stem from the internet revolution and entrepreneurship, which exert a significant influence on learning at every stage, research methodologies, the employment landscape, and consequently, on the obsolescence of certain professions and emergence of new ones. This also affects the accessibility and dissemination of knowledge across disciplines and between institutions both within and outside the country.

Today, thanks to the internet revolution, every young person can easily access information and consume it in a relatively simple and clear manner. On the other hand, the Technion is an institution known for its entrepreneurial and innovation-driven nature. Therefore, the Technion places a strong emphasis on the integration of entrepreneurship and innovation as a significant element in its various study programs. Among other initiatives, the Technion promotes projects in entrepreneurship and innovation tailored for undergraduate students, with the goal of establishing the Technion as the premier institution where students evolve from passive learners to active learners. Instead of students merely acquiring content and knowledge from their instructors, they will become creators of knowledge, which then materializes into practical applications. Another equally significant value that distinguishes the Technion is the interaction between students from various faculties, which leads to the formation of multidisciplinary teams, a crucial aspect in the world of entrepreneurship.

The opportunity to achieve these goals – in collaboration with a leading faculty and working with world-class scientists and researchers at the forefront of their fields – will provide you with an excellent opportunity to leverage your skills and deepen your knowledge in your field of interest. These experiences will serve you well in your future professional and academic journey. On this website, we have gathered the up-to-date information on the enrollment processes and undergraduate study programs at the Technion.

May your academic studies be both fruitful and personally satisfying. I hope to see you among our next cohort of students.
